although planning my own wedding was tiring & stressful, I don't regret any part of it because it is the heart behind the beginning of A Southern Affair.  Cameron & I were drawn to Doe Creek Farm in Pembroke, Virginia because of its natural beauty and laid back atmosphere.  with the breathtaking mountain backdrop for the ceremony & an original apple packing house to dance the night away, not much décor was needed on my end other than a few burlap bows & mason jars.

simplicity & southern Virginia charm were tied into every detail from the food to the flowers.  I'm not a big fan of fancy food that you can't even pronounce, so we indulged in bbq, mac & cheese, and sweet potato casserole from Bull & Bones topped off with a variety of cupcakes from Next Door Bakeshop.  might I add that I do not even like cake & these are the best cupcakes I have ever tasted in my life.  our flowers came from a local flower farm, Stonecrop Flowers, where they were naturally grown & tied together with twine.  at the end of our wedding, we donated our flowers to the local nursing home for patients to enjoy.

what would a southern wedding be without a game of corn hole, right?  one of our friends hand-painted our boards and we had guests sign them as a unique guestbook alternative.  we decided to go the DIY route with our photo booth and we ended up with some priceless memories.

if I could do it again, I’d do it the same.  the long hours put into making all of our décor, invitations, and programs ourselves makes it a little more rewarding when you see everything come together.  this was the perfect day & I can’t think of anything more fulfilling than being a part of making another bride feel the same.
